I kept seeing the same name whenever I searched for Don Lemon’s first wife. Stephanie Ortiz.

There is no mystery around Tim Malone’s place in Lemon’s life.
Lemon met Malone at Almond restaurant in Bridgehampton in 2015. They began dating the following year. Their first date took place at the Polo Bar in Manhattan on election night in 2016.
The night did not begin like a polished celebrity romance. Malone accidentally tipped over part of a table at an event. Glasses and candles went flying. Lemon later remembered thinking that the mishap had marked their first date before it had properly started.
They went to the Polo Bar afterward. Lemon and Malone later said they spent the night following election results from the restaurant before returning to Lemon’s apartment in Harlem.
The relationship became public in 2017. Malone proposed in 2019 with help from their dogs. Tags attached to the dogs asked Lemon, “Daddy, will you marry Papa?”
Lemon said yes.

Five years after their engagement, Lemon and Malone married on April 6, 2024.
The ceremony took place at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. Around 140 relatives and friends attended. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, then the United States ambassador to the United Nations, officiated.
According to People’s account of the wedding, Lemon and Malone included traditions from both sides of their families. Malone’s sisters led an Irish blessing. The couple also jumped over a broom in recognition of a tradition connected to enslaved Black people in the American South.

Lemon explained that the legal part of the marriage mattered to him. For much of his life, he had not believed that marrying another man would ever be possible.
His wedding to Malone was public, specific, and easy to verify. There was a date, a church, an officiant, named guests, photographs, and comments from both husbands.
The difference between that marriage and the Ortiz story could not be clearer.

Stephanie Ortiz has a career of her own, even though articles about Lemon often reduce her to a supposed ex-wife.

Ortiz co-hosted the bilingual music show The Roof. She also worked on Styleyes, American Latino TV, and Vibe on Demand. Her radio work included a role at New York’s Spanish-language station La Kalle 105.9 FM.
She later moved into film and production. Ortiz co-produced and starred in The Love Potion, which screened at the HBO New York Latino Film Festival.
